I am a proud Canadian, deeply disappointed and offended by a recent episode of "Cross Country Checkup" hosted by Ian Hanomansing on CBC. In this episode, Hanomansing initiated a call-in show asking people across Europe and North America about their thoughts regarding a hypothetical annexation of Canada by America, a topic that is not only far from reality but also deeply disrespectful to our great nation.

Canada is an independent, vibrant country, with a unique cultural heritage and strong democratic values, ranking 19th in the 2019 Democracy Index (Economist Intelligence Unit). Our nation has always been known for its diplomatic peacekeeping role, and is a founding member of the United Nations, with an unyielding commitment to enhancing global peace and security.

The episode stoked baseless fears and discontent among our citizens, challenging the sovereignty of Canada and flagrantly portraying us as a potential territory of America. This poses a considerable threat to the national image of Canada and generates misinformation among international communities.

Such an unprofessional and offensive episode does not deserve a place in the programming of CBC, a network supposed to represent the Canadian people and our values. We demand that CBC takes necessary action to terminate Ian Hanomansing for this shameful act, and proceed with a public apology for the damage he has inflicted to the pride and unity of our nation.
