The Issue

We, the undersigned, call on Canada’s major grocery chains — including Loblaws, Metro, Sobeys, Longo’s, and Walmart Canada — to reduce the over-abundance of U.S.-imported produce and commit to sourcing more Canadian-grown and fair-trade global alternatives.

In recent years, Canadian grocery shelves have been flooded with U.S. produce — even when similar fruits and vegetables are in season right here at home. This harms Canadian farmers, weakens our local economy, and increases our food system’s vulnerability to U.S. trade policies.

We demand:

A public commitment to sourcing more Canadian-grown produce when in season.
Transparency in labeling the country of origin for all fresh produce.
An active shift away from over-promoted U.S. goods in favour of local or ethical global alternatives.

By signing this petition, we urge Canadian grocers to put food sovereignty and local resilience ahead of convenience and profit. Let’s invest in our farmers and reduce our dependence on a system that prioritizes U.S. exports over Canadian-grown abundance.
