I am a proud Mohawk from the historically rich community of Kanehsatake Mohawk Territory in Quebec. Our community has played a significant role in the history and heritage of Quebec and Canada as a whole, yet we remain overlooked by Canada Post. Other Mohawk communities such as Kahnawake and Akwesasne are serviced and recognized by them. We, too, have the right to exist and be recognized. I reside in Kanehsatake Mohawk Territory, not Oka. My community and I are entitled to have our addresses recognized accordingly. 

The on-going ERASURE of Kanehsatake Mohawk Territory in favour of Oka by Canada Post, intentionally or otherwise, is not only administratively challenging but has deeper cultural and identity implications that feeds into the erasure of our existence and identity. It's time for Canada Post to rectify this oversight and demonstrate respect for our inherent rights.

Therefore, we implore Canada Post to acknowledge our community of Kanehsatake Mohawk Territory, providing it the recognition and postal services we duly warrant. Canada Post must ensure that mail destined for our community is correctly addressed and delivered within Kanehsatake Mohawk Territory. By doing this they would be taking a crucial step towards acknowledging our presence, history, heritage, and most importantly, our right to exist and would be a major step forward towards Reconciliation.
