Demand Burlington County to Reassess the Chain Link Fence Installation on Jackson Road Bridge

Demand Burlington County to Reassess the Chain Link Fence Installation on Jackson Road Bridge
The Issue
As residents of Medford, NJ, we are deeply concerned about the recent installation of a galvanized chain link fence on the Jackson Road bridge. This fence, as it currently stands, is not only unnecessary - sitting behind an already existing large guard rail - but also introduces safety hazards for drivers turning off Lakeside Drive and needing to see oncoming traffic on Jackson Road.
Moreover, the cement platforms that this fence is set upon have unintentionally become an attractive nuisance; adolescents in our community have begun to climb and play on them. This poses a significant risk of accidents and injuries.
The safety of our residents should be paramount. It's crucial that we address this issue urgently before any unfortunate incidents occur due to this oversight.
In addition to the safety concerns it has a negative impact on the aesthetic beauty of the area, particularly affecting the views of the lake.
Firstly, I would like to emphasize that the community values safety and appreciates efforts to enhance it. However, it appears that the placement of the fence might be an excessive measure for the specific characteristics of the Jackson Road Bridge. The bridge has existed for over 50 years and the community has not experienced significant safety concerns that would warrant such a substantial alteration to the landscape. In fact these intended safety measures as we have mentioned have actually introduced safety hazards where none previously existed.
We kindly request a review of the decision to install the fence, considering alternative safety measures that may be more suitable for Jackson Road. Perhaps a more subtle or visually appealing barrier could be explored to maintain safety, reduce driving obstacles and deter climbing, without sacrificing the natural beauty of the surroundings.
We urge Burlington County officials to reassess this situation promptly and take necessary actions for rectification. The current setup does not serve its intended purpose but instead adds potential risks to our community members' safety.
Let's come together as responsible citizens of Medford, NJ and demand safer infrastructure in our neighborhood! Please sign this petition urging Burlington County officials to reconsider their decision about the chain link fence installation on Jackson Road bridge.
