Demand British Government's Official Apology for the Jallianwala Massacre

Demand British Government's Official Apology for the Jallianwala Massacre
The Issue
It is a personal anguish for me, as it is for many Indians, that the Jallianwala Massacre which inflicted immeasurable damage on our freedom fighters and tarnished our history, has never been officially acknowledged by the British government.
This catastrophic event, occurring on April 13, 1919 in Amritsar, India, had General Dyer opening fire on a peaceful gathering, leading to the deaths of over 1,000 unarmed Indians, a figure noted by the British Parliament itself. Despite such terrifying atrocity, no official apology has ever been made by the British government to the Indian people and the families of the victims. This denial not only adds to the pain of the Indian people but sets a dangerous precedent for dismissal of such severe government overstep.
An official British apology would symbolize recognition of past wrongs and an important first step towards reconciliation. It would not rewrite history but would help us to address the shadows of our past constructively.
We, therefore, call upon the British government to formally acknowledge and apologize for the Jallianwala Massacre. Your signature can help us emphasize the need for this critical recognition and apology. Sign this petition now, push the British Government towards justice and towards healing the wounds that history has inflicted upon us.
