I am reaching out today as a concerned provider witnessing the daily struggles of families whose children need specialized care that they simply cannot access due to a restrictive network policy by Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS). As a provider who cares deeply for my patients, I want to highlight the urgent need for BCBS to extend their network to include Bloom Behavioral Solutions.

Every day, I see ABA patients covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield being denied necessary services, such as Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy. Despite the critical need for these therapies, Bloom Behavioral Solutions is continuously denied entry into the BCBS network. This decision disproportionately affects families who depend on insurance agreements to access affordable care for their children with developmental and debilitating disabilities.

Currently, families are faced with a harrowing choice: pay exorbitant out-of-pocket costs for necessary therapies or go without. This is not only financially draining but is detrimental to the health and well-being of their children. Early intervention and consistent therapy are crucial for children with developmental disabilities, and each day without care can result in lost progress and increased challenges in their daily lives.

In the United States, over 15% of children have developmental disabilities, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This equates to millions of American families struggling to access vital therapies. Insurance providers have a responsibility to ensure comprehensive and accessible care to these children.

Extending network coverage to include Bloom Behavioral Solutions would mean removing one of the many barriers families face in accessing necessary healthcare. It would allow more children to receive the consistent, quality care they require within a manageable budget. Furthermore, Bloom Behavioral Solutions has a proven track record of success in supporting children with developmental disabilities, offering therapies that are tailored to each child’s specific needs.

It is time for BCBS to take a progressive step towards inclusion and equality in healthcare by opening up their network to Bloom Behavioral Solutions. This change will not only support children and families currently denied access but will set a precedent for prioritizing patient care and accessibility.
