Demand Billboard and Luminate Reinstate Prof’s 30,000+ Valid Physical Sales for "Good Time
Demand Billboard and Luminate Reinstate Prof’s 30,000+ Valid Physical Sales for "Good Time
The Issue
Billboard Magazine, Luminate Data, and the Billboard Charts Committee
On July 2026, independent hip-hop artist Prof released his highly anticipated new album, Good Time Boy. In an incredible display of organic fan power, his dedicated community—the Gampos—showed up en masse to support self-made music, purchasing over 30,000 physical albums directly through Stophouse Records.
By all objective industry standards, these numbers earned Prof a top spot on the charts, tracking to hit the #1 or #2 Rap Album in the world.
To ensure absolute compliance, Stophouse Records literally paid a massive $30,000 fee just to access Billboard's official rulebook and ensure they followed every guideline perfectly. Yet, upon the close of the tracking week, it was revealed that Billboard and Luminate completely disqualified these sales.
Citing sudden, mid-campaign rule reinterpretations regarding physical media tracklists and variations, the charts chose to treat tens of thousands of real, hard-working consumers like bots. They erased our financial support, our dedication, and independent music history to protect major label interests. The money left our bank accounts, the vinyl and CDs are in our hands, and our choices deserve to be counted.
Prof chose independence so he could work directly for his fans, not a corporate board. We rang the bells across the entire major label world, and they felt us. Sign this petition to demand that Billboard counts the music we choose, not just the music they want to sell us.
We demand that Billboard and Luminate:
1. Audit and Reinstate: Conduct a transparent review of the 30,000+ verified physical sales processed through Stophouse Records and manually adjust the Good Time Boy chart positions to reflect reality.
2. Stop Changing Rules Mid-Campaign: Cease the weaponization of shifting, "black-box" data compliance rules that penalize independent infrastructure after artists have already spent thousands of dollars ensuring they follow the guidelines.
3. Respect Independent Music: Acknowledge that throwing out legitimate physical purchases is an insult to the music-buying public.
