Demand Big Al’s Aquarium in Ottawa Free Toothless, a Whitetip Reef Shark

Demand Big Al’s Aquarium in Ottawa Free Toothless, a Whitetip Reef Shark
The Issue
Toothless, a Whitetip Reef Shark measuring approximately 4-5 feet, has lived in distress at Big Al's Ottawa for around six years. This magnificent shark is confined to an 8-foot tank—an enclosure far too small to accommodate his natural movement and behaviors. This incredible social creature, whose species is often found swimming in packs, is all alone.
AEL Advocacy has filed an official complaint with Ontario's Provincial Animal Welfare Services, highlighting what we believe are breaches of the Provincial Animal Welfare Services Act. In the wild, Whitetip Reef Sharks roam across hundreds of square miles. Research underscores the severe psychological and physical impacts experienced by wildlife kept in confinement and isolation.
This case not only impacts Toothless but raises wider concerns about the ethics and animal welfare practices at Big Al's aquarium franchise.
We are calling on Big Al's Ottawa to acknowledge and rectify the inadequate conditions that Toothless endures. We urge them to transfer Toothless to a more appropriate setting where he can live as nature intended. Additionally, we demand Big Al’s pledge never to house sharks in captivity again.
Please support this effort by sharing Toothless's story, signing the petition, and advocating for his freedom. Help us give Toothless the chance to swim freely!
