For too long, residents of Scarborough and its surrounding areas have been at the mercy of East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) as we rely heavily on their buses for transportation. As commuters, we deserve choice and change, and a decent bus service for the price we are paying. Seeing our hard-earned money go towards ever-increasing bus fares would be acceptable if we were receiving a service that was reliable, frequent, and customer-focused. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

EYMS has repeatedly raised prices without any corresponding improvements in service. Buses often run late or not at all, leaving passengers stranded and late for work, school, or important appointments. This erratic service not only affects people's daily lives, but it also impacts the local economy, as timely and reliable transport is a cornerstone of community well-being and growth.

Furthermore, it is disheartening to see other regions enjoying modern, well-maintained buses and schedules that respect passengers' time and needs, while Scarborough is left behind with outdated vehicles and inadequate routes. Commuters are left with no choice but to pay higher fares for a dismal experience, effectively being extorted for essential travel.

The solution is straightforward: EYMS must review its pricing strategy and significantly enhance its service delivery. This should include increasing the frequency of buses, upgrading the fleet, training staff for better customer service, and ensuring service reliability. We also urge local authorities to facilitate competition in the public transport sector to ensure residents have other affordable and reliable options.
