Demand better public transport, walking and cycling infrastructure in Glossop

Demand better public transport, walking and cycling infrastructure in Glossop
The Issue
Did you know that levels of nitrogen dioxide and particulate matter exceed legal levels in parts of Glossop, particularly on Dinting Vale? Air pollution caused by heavy traffic is a major concern in our town, posing severe risks to public health and the environment. Poor air quality particularly affects vulnerable populations, such as children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions. It is crucial that we prioritize the reduction of air pollution to safeguard the health of our residents.
By taking immediate action to reduce air pollution, we can improve the overall health and well-being of our residents while also contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for Glossop and the beautiful Peak District.
To address this issue effectively, we call on Derbyshire County Council to take the following measures:
- Invest in Sustainable Transport: introduce more frequent, more reliable, and cheaper buses throughout Glossop as well as improved accessibility to help reduce the number of cars on the road, leading to decreased emissions.
- Enhance Cycling Infrastructure: construct safe and well-maintained cycling lanes throughout Glossop, as well as secure bicycle parking facilities and promoting cycling as a viable commuting option will encourage more residents to choose cycling as an alternative to driving.
- Improve Pedestrian Facilities: develop and enhance pedestrian-friendly infrastructure to encourage walking as a means of transportation. Creating safe and accessible routes for pedestrians will not only improve air quality but also promote a healthier and more active lifestyle for residents.
We believe that these measures will not only contribute to cleaner air and improved public health but also enhance the quality of life in Glossop. By prioritizing sustainable and active transportation options, we can create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Glossop.
