Demand Better Living Conditions for Residents of 207-223 Stoke Newington Church St
The Issue
We are residents of the Grade II listed building at 207-223 Stoke Newington Church St, a property managed by Peabody Housing Association. For literally decades, this historic structure has been neglected by the council and various housing associations that have overseen it. All 31 flats within this building suffer from flooding, water ingress, dampness, mould growth, rotten windows and inadequate repairs. The lack of insulation in the walls and the inadequate windows make it impossible to heat these flats properly.
The Planning and Conservation officer has stated that due to its status as a Grade II listed building, only single-glazed units can be installed - further exacerbating the heating issue. This is not just about preserving a historical structure; it's about ensuring decent living conditions for all residents within.
We are calling on our local Planning Department to now listen to the freeholder, Peabody, and the residents (who both deem Double Glazed units to be important) and take immediate action in addressing these issues. We demand a holistic refurbishment plan that respect both the historical value of our home and our right to safe and comfortable living conditions.
Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving history without compromising on basic human rights like adequate housing. Let's stand together for better living conditions at 207-223 Stoke Newington Church St!
