Demand Audit and Investigation of the Chelan County Washington Housing Authority

The Issue

For those of us personally experiencing the practices of the Chelan County Washington Housing Authority (CCWHA), the struggle has been incredibly taxing. What should be an organization aimed at reducing homelessness is instead contributing to the problem. Discrimination, deceit, and bullying are rife and many of us find our rental histories tarnished with undeserved notices, ignoring solid evidence like security cameras.

Not only are the property managers of CCWHA poorly trained, often leading to false accusations, but there appears to be a flagrant disregard for landlord-tenant laws, particularly in the case of tenants with mental health challenges. This is not just unethical; it is also illegal and must be addressed.

Given these circumstances, we are standing up and advocating for an in-depth investigation & audit of the CCWHA to be led by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Human Rights Commission, and the Washington State Attorney General. We are determined to fight for justice and proper management of housing rights for all tenants under the CCWHA.

The issues at hand are not just about housing; they are about civil rights, mental health advocacy, and the right to safe and secure housing. Interactions with landlords and housing authorities should not lead to further distress and homelessness. Let us demand action from those who have the power to institute much-needed reform.

We urge everyone to sign this petition and join us in demanding that the HUD, the Human Rights Commission, and the Washington State Attorney General launch an immediate audit and thorough investigation of the CCWHA. Stand with us, and together we can push for accountability and better practices from our housing authorities.

Let's demand that all present and last tenants are interviewed and given an opportunity to get justice for being pushed back out into the streets by CCWHA. Let inspections prove rodent infestations, bedbugs, building code violations, maintenance requests ignored, an elderly lady who's lived without power in her apartment because of faulty wiring, a toilet that can't flush unless water is dumped in it, light fixtures needing replacement, people passed over after being on the list waiting for years because the manager doesn't like her so they just didn't notify her leaving her homeless, harassing caregivers and not letting them work, making another lose a Section 8 Voucher because of not being informed and ignoring a request to allow more time, doors that won't lock, throwing people belongings away, this list isn't even all inclusive. Please don't let them abuse their power and tenants anymore.
