I am a student of color at David E Owen Middle School, New Milford, NJ. I cherish my heritage and feel blessed for who I am. However, the school environment that should be a safe haven from all forms of racism has been tainted by repeated racist incidents involving an unnamed student. These incidents have not only made me uncomfortable but also deeply upset and offended.

Many students have reported this individual's behavior, yet the school administration has merely given him a warning - a slap on the wrist - instead of implementing standard punishment protocols. This leniency sends out an alarming message that such behavior can be overlooked or tolerated.

Racism in schools is not just an isolated issue; it is part of a larger societal problem that needs to be addressed urgently. According to data from UCLA's Civil Rights Project (2019), racial harassment in schools has increased over the past few years across America.

We are calling on our school administration and district officials to take immediate action against this student as per established disciplinary procedures for such offenses. We also urge them to implement comprehensive anti-racism education programs within our curriculum to foster understanding and respect among students.
