Demand answers: 150 missing dog intakes and 133 missing cats from Polk Co AC
The Issue
Polk Co AC: Missing 150 dog intakes and 133 cat Intakes/11% of the dog intakes unaccounted for and 17% of the cat intakes.
This was presented to the BOC on Dec. 7th and as of today, no explanation. As one Commissioner said, “anyone can make the numbers show anything.” And I have would tend to agree except you have only have to add 4 numbers (euth, adopted, reclaimed, and rescued) and compared it to one number (brought in). There is no common core math going on. 4 columns added together to get the number of animals transferred out vs one number to compare to.
Polk generates random 8 digit intake numbers so there is no way advocates can track who goes in and who goes out and why and where they go out. We have asked for numerically sequential intake numbers as every other animal control does and yet …..Nothing. The absurd and unheard of practice of generating random 8 digit numbers proves it impossible for the public to provide oversight and accountability which should be at the heart of any government ran and tax-payer funded program. Literally, one animal could have 20095623 and the next 30561290.
Polk Co citizens must demand an answer.
Call for Oversight and Accountability
Per Polk Co AC’s released official Monthly report:
IN 2015
As of Nov. 30th:
1130 dogs reported in the “Brought In” (intake) column.
1280 dogs reported to have left.
366 (Adopted) + 176 (Reclaims) + 587 (Rescued) + 151 (Euthanized): 1280
150 more dogs were transferred out than were brought in. 11% (150/1280) of dog intakes are unaccounted.
As of Nov. 30th:
623 cats reported in the “Brought In” (intake) column.
756 cats reported to have left.
207 (Adopted) + 4 (Reclaimed) + 280 (Rescued) + 265 (Euthanized): 756
133 more cats were transferred out than were brought in. 17% (133/756) of cat intakes are unaccounted.
· Where was the oversight to ensure these numbers were correct?
· How can AC transfer out 150 more dogs and 133 more cats than it transferred in during a 11 month period?
· In April 34 more cats were transferred out than brought in, in May 20 more transferred out, in June 72 more cats were transferred out, and July 13. How can such a small AC with only 16 cat cages in the public cat area, have such back-to-back-to-back months?
In April 68 more dogs were transferred out than brought in, In May 39, in June 69, and in July 5. TINY rural AC and yet for this number to be true....March 31st, Polk would have had to have 181 dogs in house (for the extras to have come from the months before).
· This count does not even include any animals that died in-house which would be considered transferred out and would make the missing count even greater.
· The only way the numbers are correct is if Polk Co AC on Dec. 31st 2014 had 150 dogs and 133 cats AND if on Nov. 30th 3015 they had zero cats and zero dogs.
