Demand an Investigation into Racial Bias in Security Measures at Concert Events

The Issue

It's a distressing reality - in the various clashes of cultures and musical styles represented at concert events, an unsettling trend has been noted. Personally experienced and visibly observed, it has been noticed that the law's enforcement is unfairly skewed. At the classics event I regularly attend, a disconcerting number of minorities are routinely harassed and/or arrested. This observation is starkly contrasted by a different image when considering the Electronical Dance Carnival (EDC) event, where the crowd is predominantly Caucasian and harassment or arrests are seemingly less prevalent.

Why this disparity? It's a question that demands an answer. A 2019 study from The Sentencing Project reported that in the United States, Black adults are 5.9 times as likely to be incarcerated than white adults. Furthermore, a report from the NAACP states that although African Americans and Hispanics make up approximately 32% of the US population, they comprised 56% of all incarcerated people in 2015. This systemic bias is not acceptable, particularly in environments intended for recreational enjoyment like concerts.

Yet, here we are, with numerous concert-goers in the minority community having their music experience ruined by unjust vigilance. This is purportedly happening not due to heightened security concerns, but rooted in systemic racism projected onto a platform of social gathering.

The aim of this petition is to urge the authorities and event organizers to review their practices, assess their discriminatory security measures, and assure fair treatment for all attendees, irrespective of racial or ethnic background. We need an independent body to investigate these instances of racial bias and ensure preventative actions are implemented to stop this distressing trend.

For justice, for equality, for the love of music and unity it brings, let's join together. Sign this petition to demand an end to the racial bias in security measures at concert events.
