Demand an Independent Investigation into Labour Cabinet Minister, Bridget Phillipson

Demand an Independent Investigation into Labour Cabinet Minister, Bridget Phillipson
The Issue
We, the undersigned, call on relevant oversight bodies, including the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, the Charity Commission, and other appropriate authorities, to initiate an independent review into several unresolved matters of public concern relating to Bridget Phillipson MP, her prior employment, and political selection process.
We believe that public confidence in elected officials and charitable institutions depends on openness, accountability, and the assurance that all standards have been met without compromise.
The following areas warrant transparent scrutiny:
Selection as Parliamentary Candidate:
Concerns have been raised in the local community regarding the process by which Bridget Phillipson was selected as the Labour Party candidate for Houghton and Sunderland South. In particular, questions remain as to whether any inappropriate influence or preferential treatment occurred — potentially connected to the identity of her father or past political affiliations. We ask for clarification on whether any person involved in the process was conflicted, compromised, or subject to external influence.
Use of Public/Charitable Funds:
Bridget Phillipson previously worked for the charity Wearside Women in Need (WWiN), which received approximately £750,000 in public grant funding during the period of her involvement. To date, there is no publicly available, detailed accounting of how this significant sum was spent. We request that the Charity Commission or other appropriate authority confirm whether these funds were used in accordance with charitable and legal obligations.
Dropped Police Investigation:
A previous police investigation relating to the charity was reportedly discontinued. The Chief Constable resigned. We request a public explanation of the scope of that investigation and the reasons for its closure, to ensure that no legitimate concerns were left unaddressed.
Connections to Fraser Kemp:
Public interest in the historical political ties between Bridget Phillipson and Fraser Kemp, former Labour MP for the same area and political strategist, has raised further questions. We ask whether these connections were relevant to her career trajectory or involved in decisions that merit review.
We make no accusations, and this petition does not assume guilt or misconduct. However, given the seriousness of these issues, the scale of public money involved, and the centrality of public trust, we believe that a formal and independent review is both justified and necessary.
This is a call for clarity, accountability, and the preservation of democratic standards. We respectfully urge the appropriate authorities to act in the public interest.
