The Issue

On August 30, 2025, I — Natasha Lopez — and my family were victims of a warrantless home entry and unlawful arrest carried out by Cpl. Mills of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and assisting Deputies. Despite being told repeatedly to leave and obtain proper warrants, he forced his way into my home, striking my son with the door and detaining everyone, including my minor children, leaving them, traumatized, terrified and crying. When I called 911 for help, he ended my ability to call for help, pulled my arms behind my back to my shoulder blades with excessive force, and arrested me for “obstruction”—simply for demanding to see a warrant. Once I was arrested and my family was detained, Cpl. Mills continued questioning my son who was arrested and who had invoked his Fifth Amendment rights, threatened those under arrest, with property damage to gain cooperation for a warrantless search of another home, and his Lieutenant re-entered my residence without consent to take property keys that they used to transport the girl under arrest to said home and gain access. These actions occurred without exigent circumstances, without proper warrants, and in direct violation of constitutional and departmental standards.

GA TYRANTS SO Much Worse Than We Knew

What is at stake:

If this misconduct is ignored, every Cherokee County resident risks losing fundamental Fourth Amendment protection against unlawful searches and seizures and Fifth Amendment protection against self-incrimination. When officers can enter homes, arrest citizens, threaten detainees, and seize property without warrants or accountability, it signals a collapse of lawful procedure and public trust. Each time an internal investigation clears such behavior, it reinforces the belief that local authorities are unaccountable to the very laws they enforce.

Why now is the time to act:

The Sheriff’s Office has concluded its internal investigation and cleared the deputy involved, despite clear contradictions between video evidence and official statements. To restore integrity, an external investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and state oversight agencies must be initiated immediately. My case demonstrates why independent review is essential—not only for justice for my family but to protect all citizens from future constitutional violations. Now is the time for transparency, accountability, and reform within Cherokee County law enforcement.

If you or someone you know has experienced misconduct or abuse by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, please sign this petition and share your story. Together, we can demand the independent investigation and reform our community deserves.
