Demand an End to Unfair Long-Term Care Insurance Premium Increases in Connecticut

The Issue

In 2004, my wife and I entered into a contract with an insurance provider for our future care, purchasing a Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI) policy from Genworth. Since then, our premiums have skyrocketed by over 400%. We are not alone in this struggle. Many Connecticut policyholders have endured even more outrageous premium hikes. Horror stories abound, including a policy owner who now faces an 1800% increase and another whose annual fee escalated from $500 to a crippling $15,000—that’s a staggering increase of almost 3,000%.

These astronomical premium raises were not accidental, but a calculated move by an industry that flouted basic insurance principles. The repercussions are severe: policyholders are forced to compromise benefits or forfeit their coverage entirely. Despite the massive financial strain this puts on Connecticut families, our cries for change fall on deaf ears.

The Connecticut Department of Insurance (CID), our Attorney General, the CT Legislature, and Governor Ned Lamont have all shirked their responsibility to address this escalating crisis. This must change. We are calling on these aforementioned entities to halt the punitive premium increases approved for LTCI carriers and reassess this troubling issue.

The LTCI crisis deeply affects elderly and vulnerable citizens, many of whom have invested their life savings into these policies. It is past time for Connecticut officials to step in, hear our stories, and take firm action to alleviate this burden.

Stand in solidarity with Connecticut LTCI holders and demand an end to these unjust premium increases. Sign our petition now.
