It is time for Amazon to prioritize sustainability and make a meaningful impact in combating the climate crisis!

In 2019, Amazon introduced Shipment Zero with the goal of making half of all shipments carbon neutral by the end of the decade. Unfortunately, the company quietly abandoned this initiative, stating that a separate climate goal for shipping was no longer necessary. Instead, Amazon introduced the Climate Pledge, which sets a 2040 deadline for achieving net zero emissions across the company. We demand that Amazon reinstates and recommits to Shipment Zero, demonstrating its dedication to addressing climate change.

The Climate Pledge, while commendable, does not excuse the abandonment of Shipment Zero, which provided a more focused target for addressing shipping emissions.

Amazon's decision raises doubts about its commitment to meeting environmental goals. Transparency and accountability are vital in addressing the climate crisis. As a global retailer, Amazon has the power to lead in adopting clean transportation options. By continuing with Shipment Zero, Amazon can drive innovation in the logistics industry and demonstrate environmental leadership.

Concerns have been raised by Amazon Employees for Climate Justice, emphasizing the need for Amazon to prioritize sustainability and honor its commitments. The urgency of the climate crisis requires immediate action towards zero-emission operations. Therefore, we’re calling on Amazon to reverse its decision and uphold the Shipment Zero commitment. By doing so, Amazon can reaffirm its dedication to environmental sustainability, set a positive example for the industry, and contribute significantly to global climate efforts.
