Demand Alteration of Proposed Mt. Hope High School Design

Demand Alteration of Proposed Mt. Hope High School Design
The Issue
As a proud alumni of Mt. Hope High School, and with three nephews set to attend this institution in the future, I feel a deep responsibility to ensure that the infrastructure of this high school serves its students effectively and beneficially.
Recently, the Bristol Warren Regional School Committee's School Building Committee introduced design renderings for the proposed Mt. Hope High School (below). These plans, however, have been met with significant disillusionment within the local community and amongst alumni for a multitude of reasons. The Committee's vision, as currently represented in the design renderings, fails to reflect the unique character and values that Mt. Hope High School has upheld amongst its attendees, including academic excellence and historic, community spirit.
Despite not residing in the town currently, as an alumna I feel impelled to champion this cause. I implore the Committee to reconsider the design and layout of the new building, and ensure that it not only accommodates the practical needs of the students, but also maintains the ethos and spirit of the school and historic community in which it lies. Building a prison-like brick structure does not facilitate the environment students need to feel safe and welcome. The outside appearance matters just as much as the inside appearance.
We ask the BWRSD’s SBC to listen to our concerns and adjust the design renderings for the new proposed Mt. Hope High School. Our objective is a school layout and design that resonates with the community and safeguards the legacy of this respected institution. Please sign this petition to support this cause.
Please only sign this petition if you are a resident of Bristol, RI or Warren, RI, and/or MHHS alumni.
BWRSD SBC webpage, including agendas and presentations, can be found here.
UPDATE: As of 5:50 PM October 18th, the SBC announced the next meeting to discuss the proposed design will take place at 8:30 am Thursday, October 31st located at 235 High Street, Bristol, RI.
