Demand Alabama Barker to Cease Exploitation of Black Culture And Kicked Out Of Blk Spaces
The Issue
As an individual directly impacted by the cultural exploitation taking place, I am compelled to start a dialogue on the issue. Alabama Barker, known widely for her Cosplay, stands accused of profiting off black culture, using black men as props, and engaging in offensive portrayals of stereotypes. She embodies a 'Hood Black Baddie Aesthetic,' but the authenticity of her appreciation remains questionable. In comparing her actions with those depicted by characters in the Hollywood movie, 'Get Out', we see a familiar pattern of white individuals extracting value from black culture while belittling and undermining the very people who shape it.
This act of cultural appropriation is not just about Barker, but it is emblematic of a larger issue that communities have been battling for decades. According to studies, 71% of people believe it's inappropriate for white people to profit from black culture without understanding or respect (Rodriguez, 2020). In light of these realities, it becomes pressing that we address this issue promptly.
Our demand is simple and imperative: Alabama Barker must cease to exploit black culture for personal gain or entertainment, especially not while demeaning those who are the originators of the culture. Further, we propose an honest, open dialogue on cultural appropriation and respect, so we can facilitate meaningful change and understanding. Stand with us in demanding respect for black culture and space. We reach out to you now, to add your signature to this petition, and move one step closer toward ending this cultural exploitation.
