Demand AFGE Local 1033 to Uphold Law by Holding Secret Ballot Elections

The Issue

I am a concerned member of AFGE Local 1033, deeply troubled by the disregard for our rights and the law. Our local union has repeatedly ignored members' demands to hold a secret ballot election for the Senior Steward/Sergeant at Arms executive board position. This is not just an internal issue; it's a matter of federal law compliance.

The Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA) mandates that all executive board positions be elected via secret ballot. The Senior Steward/Sergeant at Arms role is clearly defined as an executive board position in our Local 1033 Bylaws, yet our calls for election have been continuously dismissed.

This blatant disregard for both federal law and our own local bylaws undermines the democratic principles upon which unions were built. It silences voices, suppresses votes, and erodes trust within our community here in San Antonio, TX.

The newly appointed Senior Steward was the Election Committee Chair. Coincidence?
Our Senior Steward sits on the Executive Board of our Union and should be an elected official.
Will you please sign this petition to help us uphold the integrity and ethical values that Unions stand for?

We must act now to uphold transparency and democracy within AFGE Local 1033. We demand that a special meeting be called immediately to vote on a date for this overdue election.
