Demand Action from Trumann Officials - 24 Dead Cats in a Freezer
The Issue
The Trumann community is heartbroken and outraged after the horrifying discovery of 24 dead cats stuffed into freezers in a local home on July 2, 2025. A dozen more cats were found alive, barely surviving in toxic, ammonia-soaked conditions. A child was also living in this environment. To add to the devastation, two kittens were found frozen together, curled into each other for warmth—suggesting they were still alive when placed in the freezer. This tragedy didn’t happen in isolation—it was the direct result of a broken system. Trumann Animal Control does not respond to cat-related cases. The officer currently serving in that role cares deeply about animals, but the current policy does not prioritize the protection of cats. Without formal authority or resources, even the most compassionate officers are powerless to intervene—and animals pay the ultimate price.
If nothing changes, this will happen again. Vulnerable animals will continue to be treated as disposable. Neighbors and children will be unknowingly exposed to dangerous, unsanitary living conditions. The absence of a policy for cat protection creates a silent epidemic of cruelty and neglect. But if we act now, Trumann can become a model of compassion and accountability—a place where animal welfare is taken seriously and suffering is no longer ignored.
We cannot wait for another freezer full of bodies. This case has exposed glaring cracks in Trumann’s response system. The community is paying attention—and we are demanding change. Now is the time for Mayor Woods, Trumann City Council, and Animal Control to revise outdated policies, include cats in animal protection services, and create a part-time officer role specifically trained to handle cat-related cruelty and neglect. Lives—human and animal—are at stake.
