The Issue

Everyday, they have to search for food to survive and continuously suffer from abuse, neglect, as well as inhumane treatment. Stray animals roam around the harsh streets, fending on themselves and hunt for what's necessary for their survival. Many are beaten, whilst little to no consequences for the perpetrators. Despite the animal welfare laws implemented, enforcement is quite weak, and stray animals suffer in silence. 

The Growing Crisis in Stray Animal Abuse

1. Animal Cruelty

Stray animals are often deemed as nuisance rather than living beings who breathe the same air as us. As a result, they are seen as an easy target and subjected to getting beaten or mutilated.

2. Starvation

Stray animals suffer malnutrition and hunger, struggling to find food and clean water. Thus, making them vulnerable to disease and infections. They mostly die due to the lack of nutrition needed to survive.

3. Lack of proper shelter and veterinary treatments

With no proper shelter to protect them, they face extreme weather conditions, which leads to untreated injuries as well as illnesses. Without accessible veterinary treatments, their wounds would deteriorate, leading to insufferable death. 

4. Overpopulation

With no government fund for spay and neuter programs, stray animals continue to multiply, resulting in overpopulation. Some people would commit through cruel measures such as mass killing or illegal euthanasia to control the population instead of addressing the gist of the cause.

5. Weak Law Enforcement

Even though animal protection laws exist, many local governments fail to enforce them properly. Offenders are rarely punished, and cases of animal cruelty often go unreported due to a lack of awareness. Without stronger legal action, animal abusers continue harming strays without consequences.
