Demand Accurate Representation of Sexsual Slavery and Dokdo in Japanese Textbooks

The Issue

Sexual Slavery refers to women who were forcibly taken by the Japanese military in the past and were continuously sexually assaulted. However, Japan now looks at sexual slavery in biased perspective, completely excluding the word "forced", or even completely excluding sexual slavery from the textbook content.

Dokdo is a group of small islets located in the 'East Sea' in Korea, not the 'Sea of Japan'. Despite overwhelming evidence supporting Korea's sovereignty over Dokdo, Japanese textbooks continue to inaccurately depict these islands. Also, they still mark Dokdo as Takeshima, and 'East Sea' in Korea as 'Sea of Japan' in Japan.

The purpose of education should be to provide students with accurate and unbiased information and to provide students with an objective understanding of historical events. However, the textbooks in Japanese nowadays distort or omit information about sensitive topics, such as sexual slavery and Dokdo, and they looking at and editing events from a biased perspective. This not only perpetuates misinformation but also undermines efforts towards reconciliation between both nations.

For future generations’ unbiased perspective, we call upon the Japanese government and educational authorities to accurately mark sensitive issues, including Dokdo and comfort women in Japanese textbooks. It is imperative that this issue be addressed promptly to foster historical accuracy and promote peaceful relations between Japan and Korea.

I believe that education makes future and plays a vital role in shaping societies and fostering understanding among nations. Please work together for the right history and peaceful future for both countries.
