Demand Accountability: Remove Laney College Dean Lopez

Demand Accountability: Remove Laney College Dean Lopez
The Issue
Laney College in Oakland, CA deserves leadership that prioritizes the educational and emotional wellbeing of its students. Unfortunately, the current Dean has failed to uphold the standards necessary to foster a nurturing and effective learning environment. Instead of earning the trust and confidence of both students and faculty, there has been a growing concern over the Dean's inability to address critical issues such as transparency, communication, and fair governance.
Numerous complaints have been registered regarding the Dean's lack of engagement with the student body and her dismissive attitude towards student concerns. Despite repeated requests for improvement and change, the situation remains unchanged, leaving students and faculty in a perpetual state of frustration and helplessness. This lack of accountability not only affects the morale on campus but also jeopardizes the reputation and credibility of Laney College as a respected educational institution in the Oakland community.
Moreover, internal reports have pointed out discrepancies in the Dean's management approach, inclusive of favoritism, misallocation of resources, and a general neglect towards inclusive practices. This is not the leadership that encourages growth and innovation for students who are supposed to be tomorrow's leaders.
This petition calls for the immediate removal of the Dean from her position at Laney College and the initiation of a transparent search process to appoint a new Dean who embodies the values and commitment to equality, open communication, and academic excellence. Only by bringing new leadership can Laney College ensure a thriving academic environment conducive to learning and growth.
Oakland deserves better; Laney College deserves better. Stand with us to make the change necessary for the advancement of our students and faculty. Sign this petition and voice your support for a brighter, more promising future at Laney College.
