Demand Accountability - One Bill, One Subject Transparency Act (H.R. 95)
The Issue
For too long, Congress has passed huge omnibus bills that bundle dozens of unrelated issues together. These massive bills hide controversial spending, special-interest favors, and pork projects. They make it almost impossible for Americans to know what their representatives are really voting on — and they reduce real accountability. The One Bill, One Subject Transparency Act (H.R. 95) fixes this problem.
It would:
- End the practice of bundling unrelated pork and special-interest giveaways
- Require every bill to focus on one clear subject
- Make bills much smaller and easier to understand
- Allow important funding — like infrastructure, SNAP benefits, Medicare, and Medicaid — to pass cleanly on their own
- Reduce last-minute panic and pressure to pass bad bills just to keep the government running
This common-sense rule already exists in nearly every state legislature in America. It’s time Congress followed the same standard.
By separating essential funding from political pork, we can finally see who is truly representing us. This gives voters the power to hold lawmakers accountable and elect representatives who put the people’s interests first.
