Demand accountability from the Jacksonville Sheriff Office

Demand accountability from the Jacksonville Sheriff Office
The Issue
During my time as a pretrial detainee at the John E. Goode Pre-trial Detention Center, I have witnessed and experienced conditions that deeply concern me. The state of detainee health, safety, and sanitation, along with the blatant disregard for medical privacy and humane treatment, shines a glaring light on the unethical practices and violations of rights perpetuated by the Jacksonville Sheriff Office. These are not isolated incidents but rather systemic issues that require urgent attention and reform.
In overcrowded cells, we lack access to basic hygiene products, and often face unsanitary conditions that pose serious health risks. The right to medical privacy is regularly violated, with personal medical information being disclosed without consent. Furthermore, detainees often encounter delays in receiving adequate medical care, which only exacerbates existing health issues and creates new ones.
The absence of proper nutrition and the overlooking of dietary needs highlight a lack of respect for detainee welfare. Additionally, the sanitation in common areas and facilities falls far below acceptable standards, contributing to an environment not just of neglect, but of active endangerment.
Moreover, these conditions represent a broader violation of our humanitarian and civil rights. The right to be treated with dignity and to live in an environment that does not harm one's health is a right that should be afforded to everyone, regardless of their legal status.
We demand accountability from the Jacksonville Sheriff Office to rectify these violations and bring the John E. Goode Pre-trial Detention Center up to humanitarian and ethical standards. We urge the implementation of independent oversight and regular audits to ensure compliance with civil and human rights.
This petition is a call for change, not just for ourselves, but for the future detainees who will face the same conditions if nothing is done. We need your support to amplify the voices of those who cannot speak for themselves. Together, we can ensure that dignity, ethics, and human rights are upheld within our detention centers.
Sign this petition to stand up against these injustices and demand a respectful and humane environment for all detainees.
