In Renfrew County, I have personally experienced the misapplication of power at the hands of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). In a devastating and unexpected encounter, I was assaulted in the lobby of the Superior Court by OPP officers. Shockingly, no charges were laid against these officers for their conduct.

I took the courageous step to request video evidence of this incident through the Freedom of Information office, which was granted. However, despite this official access, the Sergeant of the OPP has repeatedly refused to release the crucial footage that could shed light on the altercation and hold those involved accountable.

This alarming incident is not isolated. Many residents of Renfrew County and broader Ontario have voiced similar concerns about the misuse of authority within the OPP ranks. It's time that we demand transparency, accountability, and justice from those sworn to protect us. This misuse of power threatens the fundamental trust that should exist between the police force and the communities they serve.

By bringing my personal experience to light, I aim to inspire systemic change and ensure no one else falls victim to unchecked police authority. We must push for the immediate release of the video footage and an investigation into the conduct of the officers involved. More broadly, we need to implement robust oversight mechanisms to prevent the abuse of power by any law enforcement agency.
