This petition stems from a deeply personal and distressing incident involving the principal of West Jefferson High School, Vanessa Brown Lewis. The event unfolded when my granddaughter was asked to leave off of school grounds after 12 midnight, Yes we we were late picking her up, but we were merely 9 minutes late to pick her up from a Home Coming event that ended at 12:00p. 

V Lewis was ready to go and demanded Princess leave off of school grounds but I instructed Princess not to leave off of the property.

V Lewis asked her for her name.

The following Monday, my granddaughter returned to school only to be met with hostility. Upon overhearing her express dissatisfaction about the school to a friend, Principal Lewis told her "Well get out then", my GD refused (my GD said she didn't know where to go) V Lewis told her to get out again, my GD went outside the door of the school. V Lewis yelled get out my gate which is on the side of the road.

A man from the school said he saw what happened and went outside to ask her to come back in; he also got on the phone with us and said he felt sorry for my granddaughter and stated, "She is a freshman; she doesn't understand what goes on around here" 

My GD has NEVER received any sort of disciplinary action her entire school life, she no longer enjoys school now.

This is not just about one student's experience; it's about an environment where such behavior by an authority figure is deemed acceptable. It raises serious questions about the safety and well-being of all students under Ms. Lewis' care.

We believe in holding educators accountable for their actions and ensuring our schools are safe havens for our children - not places where they are subjected to intimidation or fear.

We ask you to join us in demanding an investigation into this incident, as well as any other potential misconduct by Principal Vanessa Brown Lewis. We need transparency, accountability, and respect for students' rights at West Jefferson High School.
