Recently, the world witnessed a horrific and unjustifiable act where healthy, innocent ostriches were killed without due process, infringing upon both ethical and procedural standards. Imagine the terror and trauma as videos surfaced, depicting ostriches being shot at by officers with 800 shots fired into the air, while the helpless public and grieving family members were forced to watch this psychological warfare unfold from a distance, preventably blocked from accessing their farm and silenced in their suffering.

This gruesome act not only disregards the welfare of sentient beings but also blatantly ignores the CFIA's own policies where shooting such animals should always be a last resort. Such disregard for sanctity of life and due process invites a broader discussion about transparency and accountability from our government and the agencies that represent it.

Who bears the psychological toll of this traumatic episode? Who compensates for the mental health impacts on both local and global viewers who have been left stunned and scarred? Videos and reports of the event have circulated widely, deeply affecting everyone who has borne witness.

We demand immediate answers and transparent accountability for everyone involved in the horrific incident, and a commitment to prevent future occurrences. By holding those responsible accountable, we acknowledge the breach and find a path forward to rebuild trust and ensure humane and just treatment of all living beings. Let us echo these innocent screams and insist that government transparency be the norm rather than a rare exception.
