Demand Accountability: Boycott Businesses Abandoning Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI
The Issue
Increasingly, businesses and institutions are turning their backs on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs - programs that are critical for addressing deep-rooted disparities in education, employment, and beyond that continue to marginalize millions of Americans based on race, sex, sexual orientation, disability, and more.
The facts are clear:
- Racial disparities in education persist: Black and Hispanic students are significantly less likely to have access to advanced coursework or equitable school funding.
- Employment inequities are rampant: Women still earn only 84 cents for every dollar earned by men, and Black workers face twice the unemployment rate of their white counterparts.
- LGBTQ+ individuals experience workplace discrimination at alarming rates, with 46% reporting being closeted due to fear of bias (Human Rights Campaign).
- Women and minorities are underrepresented in leadership roles, making up less than 25% of senior management positions in Fortune 500 companies.
These disparities are not accidental—they are the result of systemic inequities that DEI programs are designed to address. Dismantling these initiatives is a step backward, perpetuating exclusion and injustice for historically marginalized communities.
Despite overwhelming evidence that diverse and inclusive organizations outperform their peers—generating 36% more revenue (McKinsey & Company) and contributing to $12 trillion in global economic growth (World Economic Forum)—some businesses have abandoned DEI to save costs or appease political pressures. This is unacceptable.
By turning away from DEI programs, businesses are telling us that they do not value:
- Equitable education and access to opportunities for students of all backgrounds.
- Fair hiring practices that ensure marginalized groups have a seat at the table.
- Safe workplaces for women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with disabilities.
We cannot support businesses and institutions that ignore these principles. Equity, inclusion, and justice are non-negotiable.
TAKE ACTION
- Boycott ALL businesses and institutions that have abandoned their DEI initiatives.
- Redirect your dollars to companies that actively combat disparities and create opportunities for all.
- Spread awareness to hold corporations accountable for their role in shaping a just society.
When businesses choose profit over people, we must respond with action. Together, we can demand accountability and support a society where everyone has a fair chance to succeed, regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, or background.
Sign this petition to pledge your commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
DEI isn’t just a program—it’s a promise to leave no one behind. Let’s fight for that promise.
