The Issue

We, the undersigned, call for an immediate investigation into the reported inhumane practices and misconduct at FCI Miami Low/Camp. These issues include, but are not limited to:

Improper Searches and Confiscation of Essentials: Inmates report that necessary hygiene items and personal belongings are being confiscated during searches without just cause, leaving them without basic necessities.
Unjustified Lockdowns: Extended lockdowns lasting months have been implemented, denying inmates regular access to food, recreation, and family communication.
Denial of Commissary Access: Confiscated items and limited access to commissary services are leaving inmates without food or essential supplies, fostering an environment of deprivation.
Mistreatment by Staff: Reports indicate that some staff, particularly Officer Andino, fabricate infractions and treat inmates with disrespect and hostility.
Neglect of Visitation Standards: Vending machines in the visitation area have been left empty for months, undermining the well-being of families and loved ones during visits.
Non-Responsive Administration: Messages to the warden and the regional office about these concerns have gone unanswered, leaving families and inmates without recourse.
These actions violate basic human rights and federal standards for the treatment of incarcerated individuals. Inmates and their families deserve transparency, accountability, and respect.

the facility does not comply with the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ National Menu standards. The food quality is alarmingly poor, lacking essential nutrients, which raises significant concerns about malnourishment and the overall well-being of the inmates.

This disregard for the mandated nutritional guidelines undermines the health and safety of those in custody

This is not only about improving conditions for those incarcerated but also about upholding the values of dignity, respect, and justice in our society.

Please join us in calling for change. Together, we can ensure that every individual, regardless of their circumstances, is treated with the humanity they deserve.

We demand the following:

A federal investigation into the practices and conditions at FCI Miami Low/Camp.
Immediate reform to ensure humane treatment of inmates, including access to hygiene products, food, and communication with loved ones.
Accountability for staff members engaging in misconduct or fabricating infractions.
Oversight to ensure compliance with federal regulations governing prison operations.
The issues at FCI Miami Low/Camp reflect a broader need for reform in the U.S. prison system. We urge the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Congress, and other relevant authorities to take swift and decisive action to address these concerns.

We demand that the facility immediately comply with the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ National Menu standards. The current food quality is alarmingly poor, lacking essential nutrients, which raises serious concerns about malnourishment and the overall well-being of inmates.

This blatant disregard for mandated nutritional guidelines undermines the health and safety of those in custody. Adequate nutrition is a basic human right, and failure to meet these standards is unacceptable.

This is not just about improving conditions for those incarcerated—it is about upholding the values of dignity, respect, and justice in our society.
