The Issue

The Problem

During quarterly parkade sweeping at Gilmore Place in Burnaby, BC, residents are required to move our vehicles out of the building entirely—even if it's just for one day. The frustrating part? The commercial parking levels sit empty above us, but we're not allowed to use them. Not even if we offer to pay.

Meanwhile, residents who rent monthly commercial stalls face an even worse situation: five consecutive days of displacement with nowhere to go.

What We're Facing

  • No option to relocate within our own building—we're forced to find street parking or external lots
  • Commercial levels remain off-limits to residents, even as a paid temporary measure
  • Financial burden and stress for residents who already pay monthly for their stalls
  • Disproportionate impact on commercial stall renters (5 days vs. 1 day for others)

What We're Asking For

  • We're not asking for free parking. We're asking for a practical option that already exists in our building.
  • Let us pay to use commercial levels during maintenance — A simple daily or weekly "maintenance rate" would solve this for most residents based on the frequency even a bulk discount rate would be appreciated
  • Phased cleaning schedules — Clean section-by-section so residents can shuffle within the parkade rather than leave entirely
  • Work with us — Hold a resident consultation to develop a fair, long-term Standard Operating Procedure

Why This Matters

For Onni, this is routine maintenance. For us, this is our daily life. We're not asking for special treatment—just the option to park in our own building while it's being cleaned. The commercial levels are right there. Let us use them.

And for those of us who purchased our homes here, these kinds of policies matter. When prospective buyers see how residents are treated—displaced from parking with no reasonable alternatives—it reflects poorly on the building and deters future purchases. Good property management isn't just about maintenance; it's about building a community people want to invest in.

Sign this petition to tell Onni Commercial: give residents a reasonable option, come to the table and discuss options with our esteemed, highly respected and hard working Council members.

Lets work together, because that's what good neighbors do.
