Students don’t usually rally behind the person who holds them accountable. But they are now — loudly. That alone says everything about Josh Vialpando.

After 20 years of serving our district with dedication and integrity, Josh Vialpando has become an irreplaceable pillar in our educational community. His record speaks for itself  no poor evaluations, no write-ups, only consistent positive feedback and unwavering support from both students and staff. Yet, despite this commendable history, the board has voted 4-3 not to renew his contract based on anonymous allegations from a survey riddled with secrecy and a lack of proper investigation.

We are not confused. We are disappointed. We are angry.

Josh Vialpando's dedication has fostered an environment where students are not just educated but inspired. He has consistently proven himself as an advocate for both academic and personal growth, nurturing countless students to reach their highest potential. It is an injustice to see his career and contributions dismissed based on unsubstantiated claims. This decision not only undermines his integrity but also disregards the voices of those he has positively impacted.

The board's decision came without transparency. The survey, which played a crucial role in this decision, remains shadowed by anonymity and lacks evidence of a thorough investigation. We believe in due process. We believe in the right to a fair evaluation, grounded in transparency and facts.

We call on the board to revisit this decision through a transparent and fair evaluation process. Reconsider the vote with full transparency, allowing evidence-based explanations and input from the wider school community. Josh Vialpando deserves a fair chance to respond to these anonymous allegations and so do we deserve the right to advocate for the educators who shape our future.
