As concerned members of the community, we are deeply troubled by the recent appointment of Dr. Hyland as superintendent without proper consideration for the well-being and safety of our students. We believe that the process was rushed and failed to address our concerns regarding his involvement in a Title IX lawsuit at one of our local high schools.

This petition is personal to me because I have witnessed firsthand the devastating impact that Dr. Hyland's lack of action had on a student who endured harassment, assault, and threats in a sexual manner. These incidents occurred within his building, under his supervision, yet he failed to protect this vulnerable student.

In one distressing event, this student was pushed against a locker and sexually touched by multiple members of the football team - individuals whom Dr. Hyland himself coached. Shockingly, a staff member witnessed this horrifying act but failed to report it or intervene effectively. The situation escalated to such an extent that this student attempted to take her own life.

It is important to note that these assaults and threats were brought to Dr. Hyland's attention on multiple occasions; however, he neglected to take appropriate action or follow up with necessary consequences for those responsible. This level of negligence is simply unacceptable in any educational institution.

We firmly believe that our students deserve better leadership - someone who will prioritize their safety and well-being above all else. Therefore, we urge you to sign this petition demanding a re-vote for Dr. Hyland's appointment as superintendent.
