The University of Mississippi is steeped in a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1848. An integral part of this history has been its athletic tradition and the symbols that represent it. However, since the erasure of Colonel Reb, the failure of the Black Bear and the disappearance of the Land Shark, our school has been without a mascot. Creative fans have a new solution: Grover the Squirrel. A beloved Grove Squirrel, dressed in a football uniform with Colonel Reb's historic hat and cane, and named for The Grove, Grover ties a lot of the school’s historic cultural things together, while remaining inoffensive.
