Demand a New Buckie Community High School Now
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents, parents, taxpayers, and supporters of Buckie, call on Moray Council to immediately prioritise and fund the construction of a new Buckie Community High School. For too long, our children, teachers, and community have been let down by a crumbling, neglected school that’s unfit for purpose. Enough is enough—Buckie deserves better.
The Facts:
Buckie Community High School is in dire condition: leaking roofs, laughable security (highlighted by last year’s break-ins), and outdated facilities that fail to meet 21st-century educational standards.
Half of Moray’s schools are rated poor, yet Buckie High is perpetually sidelined, leapfrogged by other projects despite promises—like the 2022 multi-million-pound package lost to Forres.
Senior officials admit it’s one of Scotland’s worst learning estates, at risk of sudden closure without urgent investment.
Moray Council claims budget cuts make a new school “unaffordable,” even as council tax rises 10% this year and next, and the Scottish Government offers a £1 billion uplift for 2025/26.
The Problem: Our children are stuck in a decaying relic while other towns get shiny new buildings. Funding bids fail, excuses pile up, and Buckie is left at the back of the queue. This isn’t just about money—it’s about respect and fairness. The council’s indifference is a betrayal of our community, risking a catastrophe—like a collapsed ceiling—before action is taken.
Our Demand: We demand Moray Council:
Commit to building a new Buckie Community High School with a clear timeline.
Secure the necessary funding, using the Scottish Government’s £1 billion uplift and cutting through red tape.
Stop the excuses and prioritise Buckie’s children, who deserve the same opportunities as those in Forres, Elgin, or anywhere else.
This is more than a school—it’s a necessity for our future. Douglas Ross MP calls it a “black mark” on Scotland’s education system, and he’s right. But words won’t fix leaky roofs or broken promises. We need action now.
Sign this petition to tell Moray Council: stop ignoring Buckie. Deliver the new school our community has been denied for too long. We won’t stop fighting until it’s built.
