The intersection of Cedar Road and the Trans-Canada Highway, known locally as the Cedar Overpass, is notoriously known as the most dangerous intersection in our city. In recent years, it has been the site of hundreds of crashes yet overlooked by the authorities when it comes to addressing the root causes. The most devastating incident occurred on June 21, when a fatal crash claimed the life of a student from our high school, just one day before graduation. This loss is a grim reminder of the danger posed by this intersection, and as a community, we refuse to witness more preventable tragedies.

The root of the problem lies with the existing visual blind spot that impedes a driver's ability to safely navigate the intersection. This persistent issue remains unaddressed, endangering the lives of motorists and pedestrians alike. It is apparent that immediate intervention is imperative to ensure the safety of our community.

Hence, I propose a critical improvement that could significantly enhance safety. We urge the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to immediately conduct a thorough review of the northbound approach from the Trans-Canada Highway to the Cedar Road intersection. Installing a left-side, median advance warning light to alert drivers of oncoming dangers is essential in preventing further loss of life at this intersection.

Adopting this safety measure will serve as a proactive step towards securing safer roads for our community. This initiative demands urgent attention. By preventing future accidents, this crucial safety enhancement will honor the memory of those who have already suffered under these hazardous conditions.
