Within the United States, wrongful accusations can have a devastating impact on the lives of the innocent. Yet, currently, there is no systematic method to hold such false accusers accountable. While not all accusations are willfully made, those that are intentionally false should be monitored to guard against repeat offenses. By creating a dedicated registry for false accusers, we safeguard the principles of justice and fairness. According to National Registry of Exonerations, 54% of wrongful convictions in the US that were later overturned were based on perjury or false accusations between 1998 to 2018. This highlights the urgent need for an efficient way to detect, prevent, and deter such harmful falsehoods. Implementing such a registry in Columbia, SC will serve as a model for other cities, and even for entire states. Let's fight for justice by keeping track of those who misuse the system.
