Town of Monroe Councilwoman Bingham and Councilwoman Stephen's have made it publicly known that they support this effort. It takes one more person on the board to make it reality.
Our community in the Town of Monroe New York has reached a crossroad. For nearly ten years, we have been operating under an outdated comprehensive plan, crafted with the intention of guiding us for only five years. Today, as developments spring up around us, the foundations meant to support them—and us—become increasingly strained. We must pause, assess, and re-establish stability in our infrastructure.
Enforcing an immediate building moratorium is not just a precaution; it is an urgent necessity to ensure the safety and resilience of our community. Our roads are increasingly congested, our schools overflow with students, and our public services strain to meet the burgeoning demand. Without a reevaluation, we risk compromising the stability and sustainability that form the very essence of our town’s character.
Government reports and studies suggest that continually adding to existing structures without robust support can lead to severe inefficiencies and even disasters in the long-term. Furthermore, evidence from similar towns, like Ashburn and Clearbrook, indicates that deliberate and well-planned growth yields stronger, safer communities.
Our town board must heed our call for a hiatus on further construction activities until we have developed a comprehensive new plan. This forward-thinking, safety-focused strategy must be achieved through community engagement and expert consultation. Updating our infrastructure plans should incorporate modern best practices, considering newer technologies in urban development and public safety systems.
