Demand a Ban on Surge Pricing for Concert Tickets

The Issue

As avid concert enthusiasts and devoted fans, we have witnessed, with increasing frustration and despair, the greedy practices adopted by ticket sale companies. Concert promoters, in alliance with ticketing companies like Ticketmaster, have been exploiting gig-goers by skyrocketing the prices of concert tickets far beyond their face value, due to the level of demand for tickets. This predatory business model leverages high demand to arbitrarily hike prices, effectively pricing us out from experiencing the music we love.

Despite artists, in some instances, partnering with resale sites such as Twickets, that only allow fans to resell tickets at face value, promoters and primary ticketing companies continue to inflate prices to unprecedented levels due to demand. This results in a substantial number of tickets being sold at exorbitantly high prices, a practice that is strikingly similar to touting; it excludes fans and widely profits the middlemen. In one such example, tickets to see Oasis perform at Wembley Stadium were inflated by approximately 140%, with standing tickets, originally priced at £148, being sold as ‘In demand standing tickets’, at approximately £355.

We urge the government to call an end to this avaricious practice by banning all forms of surge or demand-related price hikes for concert tickets. It's time to ensure that music remains accessible for everyone, reinforcing its universal essence, and not a luxury for those who are both willing and able to overpay, monopolised by companies benefiting from the excessive demand.

Urge the government to ban this practice of price hiking for concert tickets, allowing music lovers to continue enjoying their passion without being financially exploited, for the love of music and fair pricing. Sign this petition, let's make concerts accessible and affordable for everyone again.
