FUTURE YEPPOON SKATEPARK PROJECT
Petition Statement
Petition to Livingstone Shire Council

We, the undersigned residents and supporters of the Capricorn Coast community, respectfully request that Livingstone Shire Council investigate, plan and prioritise the development of a modern skatepark facility in Yeppoon (such as Gladstone Regional Council has recently done for Agnes Waters).

As Yeppoon continues to grow, there is increasing demand for high-quality recreational infrastructure that supports young people, families and active lifestyles. Skateboarding and BMX riding are rapidly growing sports that provide significant physical, social and mental health benefits. Both sports are now included in the Olympics.

Our existing skatepark has served the community for many years. However, it no longer reflects contemporary international standards of skatepark design. Its layout limits progression, interrupts natural movement, and presents unnecessary safety challenges that discourage both beginners and experienced riders. 

A new modern skatepark would:

• provide a safe and inclusive recreational space for local youth, benefitting our community
• promote physical activity, healthy lifestyles and mental wellbeing
• encourage positive community engagement
• improve skill levels for all ages and competencies
• create opportunities for events and competitions
• attract visitors to the region, benefitting local businesses and tourism
• help meet the recreational needs of Yeppoon's growing population.

We respectfully request that Livingstone Shire Council:

• investigate opportunities for a modern skatepark facility in Yeppoon
• consider funding pathways for future development
• undertake community and professional consultation regarding design and location
• include the project in near future recreation and infrastructure planning. 

We urge the local council and relevant authorities to prioritize the development of a new, modern skatepark in Yeppoon. By investing in this invaluable community asset, we empower our youth, encourage tourism, and stimulate local economic growth. An updated facility will serve as a hub for local events and competitions, putting Yeppoon on the map as a premier skateboarding destination.
