Delhi AQI 800+: Shut School's Now to Save Lives
The Issue
According to AQI.in, which refers to pollution as a "silent killer" in Delhi, an estimated 17,188 people die from pollution.
As of 20:00 19th November, 2025, according to the Delhi Institute of Tool Engineering, Wazirpur, Delhi, Delhi AQI reached a staggering 856-- that is hazardous to everyone, plants to animals alike. This is a moment where everyone must unite, whether you are right-wing or left-wing, an animal lover or a plant lover, whether you believe in equal rights or not. I think everyone can believe that:
Living should be free and for everyone.
This is no longer a seasonal inconvenience. This is a public health catastrophe that we are being forced to inhale every single day. We are breathing air that would be classified as toxic in any other part of the world. If this were water, no one would dare drink it. If this were food, it would be banned. Yet, because it is air—silent, invisible, and unavoidable—we are being asked to accept it as “normal.”
But nothing about this is normal.
Our friends suffer nosebleeds on the way to school. Children collapse from breathlessness during sports periods. Asthma attacks have doubled. Masks—meant for pandemics—have become everyday necessities. And the most heartbreaking fact? Many of us have begun to numb ourselves to it. We scroll past AQI numbers like they are just weather updates, forgetting that they measure how quickly our lungs are being damaged.
We cannot afford this apathy anymore.
Whether you are a student, a parent, a teacher, a worker, or someone simply trying to survive in this city—this crisis unites us all. Pollution does not care who you vote for. It does not check your caste, class, gender, or ideology before entering your lungs. It kills indiscriminately, silently, and relentlessly.
And yet, our leaders debate, our schools remain open, and the most vulnerable—children—are forced to breathe poison in the name of “normal functioning”.
We refuse to accept a future where breathing clean air becomes a luxury.
We refuse to accept a system that chooses optics over human life.
We refuse to let the next generation grow up thinking this is what life should look like.
Delhi deserves better.
India deserves better.
Every living being deserves better.
This is our call for accountability, transparency, and above all—action.
Not tomorrow.
Not next week.
Now.
