Delay Mowing at Rabbit Run Farm to Protect Migratory Grassland Birds

The Issue

I've fought against the senseless destruction of Bobolink and eastern meadowlark nests before. A decade ago, I petitioned against a similar action in Chester, New York. Unfortunately, despite promises for change, our efforts were fruitless. Today, the same heartbreaking disregard for wildlife unfolds at Rabbit Run Farm in Warwick, New York. This private farm persists in mowing procedures, senselessly destroying these migratory birds' nests during their nesting season.

Every year, these birds make a journey of 5000-6000 miles to nest in the same area as the previous year. Their choice is not accidental nor arbitrary. Their survival hinges on safe nesting grounds. Yet, habitat loss presents a monumental obstacle for these endangered birds. The needless mowing of their nests further jeopardizes their delicate existence.

Our request is simple yet crucial: delay the mowing of the grasslands on this farm until the nesting season is over. It's only a matter of a few short weeks. This brief respite could make a significant difference in the survival of these species. The community must cherish and protect its natural heritage. We owe it to future generations.

Enough is enough. We can no longer stand by while our local wildlife suffers. Together, we can urge Rabbit Run Farm to postpone their mowing and protect these endangered species. It's time our cries for conservation are heard and respected. Please sign the petition to support this vital change.
