Today on May 11, 2020 the Delaware Valley University Men's and Women's Tennis teams received an email from the University's athletic director, Dave Duda, informing us that our program was "eliminated", meaning the program is no longer a recognized NCAA D3 sport on campus. This came to a shock to us all, as it was sent to us with no context and out of no where. We are all full of many emotions at this time, heartbreak being the most prevalent. As a tennis team, we have created this petition in order to fight for something we love. This petition is written in hopes of bringing back at least a women's tennis team, as we understand that a men's team has been struggling for many years. Bringing back only a women's tennis team would help to cut budget costs in half, as a men's coaching salary would not have to be paid. Also, as student-athletes on the tennis team, we have paid for almost everything out of pocket so there is no need for a large budget. If you are a student-athlete yourself reading this, imagine yourself in our shoes and having your sport striped out from underneath you out of no where. All student-athletes know what it is like to have a season taken away from us due to COVID-19, imagine an entire college athletic career.
