The use of unmarked police vehicles for the purpose of traffic stops, make it difficult to tell the difference between legitimate officers and police impersonators. With the increasing reports of police impersonators using unmarked vehicles to pull people over, the concerns for lagitimate safety to the public rise too. I have two daughters, one of which is ready to drive, and I fear for them if they ever have to encounter a situation where they are pulled over by an umarked police vehicle.

More often it is too easy for criminals to get red and blue lights for their vehicles and impersonate law enforcement. Just recently in Illinois, Dupage county, 4 men arrested for impersonating law enforcement.

I ask that the law be amended to require all municipal police and law enforcement vehicles be marked for the purpose of identifying actual police officers. We could adopt a similar law that the state of Washington has enacted.

With this petition for law, I am requesting that the vehicles of law enforcement in the state of Illinois and counties and cities within be marked with identification proving that they are law enforcement vehicles. Some cities have already started marking their vehicles, even with ghost graphics which are highly reflectable but not noticable unless seen from certain angles or reflected. Unlike solid graphics on marked police vehicles.
