Delaware Needs More Drug & Alcohol Treatment Facilities

The Issue

In recent years statistics have shown a drastic increase not only in opioid abuse but opioid related drug overdoses across the State of Delaware.  New numbers have projected a 71%+ increase in drug overdose related deaths [2017], surpassing all 49 other states in our country.

In Portugal, Drug and Alcohol Treatment facilities are standard and readily available to anyone who wants or needs help.  An article posted by the New York Times states "Methadone and other drug treatment programs also exist in the U.S., but are often expensive or difficult to access. The result is that only 10 percent of Americans struggling with addiction get treatment; in Portugal, treatment is standard."

Did you know?

Delaware only offers very limited resources for drug and alcohol treatment?
Of those treatment options include many self pay Methadone Clinics, only a     few limited residential treatment options, and a several Intensive Outpatient Therapy private sectors.
Ask anyone who actually knows and understands the treatment options in Delaware, It's just NOT ENOUGH.

Our state suffers gravely from an epidemic that is crippling our communities, destroying families and taking the lives of parents to young children across the state.  THIS HAS TO END.

I am asking the residents of the State of Delaware to sign this petition to show our state legislators our state NEEDS their help in drafting and passing bills to help move toward a resolution to this issue.  This topic is very important to our state in its entirety.

When aiding an issue like this, we can see drastic changes in decreased crime, decrease rates in overdose, economic growth, and moreover safer communities.  The issue at hand isn't just affecting our neighbors, it's affecting all of us.  So please sign!

We need the following

1.) More Residential Treatment Programs available to Delaware State Residents, (WITH AND WITHOUT INSURANCE)
2.) Medicaid Allowances need to be changed to allow for full residential treatment for those who meet the criteria for treatment.
3.) Transitional Housing to help aide transition from treatment to standard living.

Thank you, and God Bless.

Our state has several efforts underway to improve the plight of those suffering from alcohol and substance abuse addiction. The most recent was the establishment of the Behavioral Health Consortium.
