Hello, My name is Endia Ferguson and I am a senior at Cedar Grove High school. Dekalb County has recently changed our virtual schedule from 9:40-1:50 to 8:30-3:15. As a high school student in dekalb county this change was very sudden for everybody and is very hard adjusting to. My peers have jobs, mental health, and personal means to take care of outside of school that we have been consistent with up until this massive change in the schedule. The Dekalb County School Board has done us a disservice once again by elongating the schedule and forcing us to sit for 7 hours straight in front of a small computer sitting upright with cameras on. The only break we are given is 30 minutes and if we are not back in time we are marked tardy for that entire class period. I’m asking for help in reaching my School Board and getting them to see that this change is unfair for not only my peers as students but also unfair to the schedules we’ve created for ourselves. Not only did we not have any say so in what was going to happen with our school year, but we were also denied any type of modifications to our school days. Anything will help with the cause and I hope that people understand the gravity of this pandemic and how it had affected myself, and my community, more specifically my fellow peers in class of 2021, Thank you.
