Have Graduation on our high school football field

Have Graduation on our high school football field
The Issue
Collinsville High School’s Class of 2020 is petitioning Dr. Jason Barrett and the DeKalb County Board of Education to allow us to hold our graduation ceremony at our home field, the Chad Hawkins Stadium.
The field is where the seniors have unforgettable memories. From football games to pep rallies, and so much more, we all cherish the field. The football players, cheerleaders, soccer players and the ones that cheered for the Panthers have essentially grown up on that field.
After all we have endured through this crisis, please allow us one last memory together as a class at CHS. We are beyond thankful for the opportunity being given but we wish to hold our graduation at our home and add to the memories we have of our senior year. We have looked forward to throwing our caps and moving our tassels at the commencement ceremony for so many years.
For the past 13 years we never questioned our graduation and how the event would take place. We understand that no one expected COVID-19, but our senior year has been far from what we expected. We would love for our final moments as a student at Collinsville High School to be on our school campus.
We do not consider the DeKalb County Schools Coliseum to be our territory or home. The Coliseum is not a special place to us. Additionally, graduating at Chad Hawkins Stadium instead of the DeKalb County Schools Coliseum seems more sensible because the stadium is not enclosed and allows for fresh air to flow through.
We understand the six-person limit and the requirements to wear a mask. Still, we urge you to consider moving graduation to Chad Hawkins Stadium.
